There are numerous events that Jane goes through in the book that Bronte also went through as a girl. For example, Jane was mistreated as a child and was ignored by Mrs. Reed, Bronte was also treated badly as a child and had some tough things to overcome as a child. Another example, Jane had been sent off to a school and didn't return home, Bronte had also been sent off to a school as a little girl. Both Bronte and Jane hated school probably because these schools both had no heating little to no food and cold water for showers/baths and cruel teachers. Jane and Bronte both had gone through several family deaths throughout the years, giving yet another similarity between the two girls. Jane was orphaned as a child and never knew her parents and also had lost Helen while she was at school. Bronte had lost her mother and her two older sisters. There are many more events that further prove that Jane Eyre was, in fact, an autobiography of Bronte's life.

I agree with all of your connections that state the book is a autobiography. You list many examples and I believe that it defiantly won't be hard for you to find more since their stories are so much alike. Great job listing all the ties from Bronte's life to her book.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with all of your connections, and I think the book is an autobiography too. There are many examples within the novel that relate to Charlotte Bronte's life and it is obvious that she was writing about her own expierences and feelings. This novel could have also been a form of "therapy" for Bronte to tell her life story, since she stuggled with depression and did not have many people in her life that she was close with and could have talked to about these things, so instead she decided to put it in a book.
