How Jane Eyre connects with Charlotte Bronte

Throughout Charlotte Bronte’s novel, Jane Eyre, the reader can make many connections from Jane’s life to Bronte’s life. When Charlotte Bronte was a child she was sent to a school similar to the one in her novel. She began to hate the school she was sent to with a passion. Jane Eyre is also sent to a school when she is only ten years old and Jane also does not take a liking to the school. Jane hates the school because the food is bad, it is very cold and others are getting sick, and because of the man that runs the school. Bronte also did not grow up in a wealthy family. She had many siblings and they were always hunting for money. While growing up, Jane lived with her aunt because she did not know her parents. Jane was not given much and was not treated well. Another connection we can make between Jane and Bronte is their family deaths. Jane’s parents died and she never got to know them. Her best friend Helen from school also died. Even though Helen was not a family member, Jane grew to be very close to her and was shocked when she died. Bronte’s mom and two of her sisters died. These are just a few of the events that prove Jane Eyre to be an autobiography of Charlotte Bronte’s life.

  1. These are great connections between Charlotte Bronte's and Jane Eyre's lives. The deaths of their family and loved ones are especially important because they are Bronte's experiences being used in her writing.
